Prevent Shaken Baby Syndrome BC launched its annual CLICK for Babies campaign on November 1, distributing over 11,000 purple caps across the province to raise awareness of the Period of PURPLE Crying program.
This grassroots campaign raises awareness of shaken baby syndrome. Now in its tenth year, the team is expanding the campaign beyond new and expectant parents and into the broader community. This year the number of caps knitted and crocheted was almost three times the program goal. Thank you to the 61 crafting groups and 55 individuals across Canada for your efforts.
The Period of PURPLE Crying program is delivered in BC maternity hospitals and public health units year-round, helping to prevent shaken baby syndrome by helping new parents and caregivers understand normal crying patterns in young infants (the main trigger to shaking), and how to deal with intensive periods of crying in a safe way.
