Hockey legend Ken Dryden gave a call to action, encouraging players, coaches and medical professionals to educate others about concussion awareness, prevention and treatment, at the Ken Dryden sport concussion symposium, Jan. 28, attended by almost 200 people.

Ken Dryden interviewed children and sports professionals who are affected by concussions including former NHL enforcer Gino Odjick who still suffers from the concussions he endured in his hockey career.

Medical professionals and coaches were also interviewed and encouraged to continue to push for ways to reduce head injuries in sports.

The event was also an opportunity to profile the second Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT) being developed by Dr. Shelina Babul, associate director/sports injury specialist at BCIRPU and organizer of the symposium, in partnership with the Ministry of Health. The first CATT was developed for physicians and health professionals and the second CATT will be directed to coaches, parents, players and trainers, and will be ready in March. The third CATT for educators is scheduled to be available in the fall.
